What is the OC about?

“We read to know we’re not alone.” William Nicholson

Truth be told, I kind of started this site on a whim. As my wife and I were finishing dinner last night, I followed an impulse . . . I hastily went to the computer, registered the domaine name, bought a generic Word Press site and started writing the first thing that came to my mind. The whole thing took about an hour, and then I went to bed. Twenty-four hours later I am reflecting on all the encouraging comments from people who have responded to the invitation to be part of a new dialog. Wow! Not just the encouraging words, but words of solidarity: “I relate”, “I look forward to being a part of this!” My sister-in-law Amanda’s comment really gets at my hope and the vision for this new website: “I’m really glad you started this blog. We all need to know we’re not alone out there and that our journeys will intersect with the right people at the right time.” I could not have said it any better than that!

Oh, about the name? This is the Occasional Congregation where “occasional” doesn’t mean “infrequently” but “a special occasion” and “congregation” is not a “religious group” but quite literally, a “gathering together.” So let me welcome you to our little web community – welcome to the Occasional Congregation!

I believe that all the places we find ourselves in life and all the people we encounter are part of a much greater plan that we will never be able to comprehend or decipher. The Occasional Congregation is one such place. I look forward to reading and sharing with everyone and I am excited about what lies around the corner! God Bless you all for now!

Hey Sue, so good to “read” your voice! I share that faith in a master plan for all of us, even though for now, “we see through a glass darkly” How does that go, “Lately it occurs to me what a long strange trip it has been”? So glad to reconnect with you and other members of our fam! Since writing the About blurb above, I’ve added another guiding value for this site – The OC will be a writers co-op, consisting of a growing number of contributors who value a safe and respectful place to gather and to have a conversation. My prayer is that the OC would not just be a place where people can share their beliefs, and doubts, hopes and fears, questions and convictions without fear of being judged; but my hope is that this little site would be a place where people can engage in respectful and “sharpening” critique of ideas as well as compassionate support of one another as friends.
